Good hatchery hygiene is important to ensure that the chicks do not pick up an infection in the hatchery and are healthy and vigorous on release. After hatching, chicks are graded and in some cases divided by sex. They may be vaccinated for diseases such as infectious bronchitis, Newcastle disease and Marek’s disease.
Day old chicks are got from hatchery which can be either sent to layer farms or sold to layer farms managed by others or can even be grown under grower sheds until 18 weeks and then sold to layer farms.Day Old chicks are also sent to broiler farms where they grown for commercial meat puposes. Since mortality rate is high during chick stage, special care need to be taken and therefore most of the customers prefer starting layer farming from 18th week of the birds.
